Original owner. Regularly played by owner until 1978 when owner sustained hand injury. Periodic tuning but no playing since 1978. Original parts and technology.
Includes working older-model Dampp Chaser system for humidity deflection as well as bench. Reasonable finish for age, no significant damage (some light nicks, dings and sunlight weathering). Piano has always been kept in climate-controlled home and was professionally moved in 1986, 1999, and 2011. Keys are intact and undamaged.
Assessment notes include: “There is acceptable torque on the tuning pins; the pin block is original but has weathered well. The piano holds tune and shows good torque. The board looks sound: no signs of glue joining separation at inner rim. Ribs under the board show no signs of separation. Bass and tenor/treble bridges look sound: root shows no separation from board; caps show no separation; no cracks in the cap due to bridge pins. Pedals and strings show signs of oxidation resulting from nonuse. Piano plays stiffly, probably because it hasn’t been played regularly.”
The piano needs playing to relax the feel and achieve the richness and maturity expected for this manufacturer. The M’s manageable size makes it perfect for many homes or other settings like conservatories, studios, churches and galleries.
