Made in 1990 this piano was purchased brand new by me in 1992, from Hendricks Music in Glen Ellyn Illinois (now closed)
I recently had all new Abel hammers installed in this piano. These are the best hammers for the Mason and Hamlin. Model A. I researched the proper hammer for this piano by calling the Mason and Hamlin factory in Haverill, Massachusetts. I spoke with a foreman that has been with Mason and Hamlin for over 30 years. These hammers and the type of felt that they are made of are what the Model A has always used and still uses in their new pianos today. After receiving the hammers the technician working with me then installed them. He fully regulated the entire action. Then he completely voiced and tuned the piano. The sound now is simply beautiful.
The Mason & Hamlin Model A piano has always been the type of piano that projects majestically. It sounds much larger than its 5'8" size. The bass end has a presence that cleanly envelops the entire room. The mid-range is distinct and supportive. The high end can be heard through the bass and mid-range and you can feel how it too projects, separates and integrates with the rest of the sound of the piano.
It is in immaculate condition and I have always maintained it meticulously, tunings, voicings, etc. I was a professional pianist for many years. The reason I am selling this piano is because I have a recording studio in my home and I prefer a seven foot which I recently purchased. If you are looking for a piano to begin or continue studying the piano, because of its distinctive tone and feel, this piano would be absolutely perfect for that.
The black satin finish is flawless, simply beautiful and just glistens.
I really do not think you will be disappointed if you come in, look at it, and play it. Any reasonable offer will be seriously considered.
