This is a very rare 1929 Knabe Ampico Model B Reproducing Baby Grand Piano. The piano is made of oak and veneered in American walnut. The case and legs feature French Provincial Styling paired with hand-carved provincial legs, matching case adornments and split/butterflied walnut veneer. Needless to say the style of this piano is a spectacular design from the “Golden Era” of pianos.
This Knabe Ampico Model B baby grand piano was partially restored by Piano Artisans in 2006. During the 2006 restoration, the piano was refinished, restrung and the plate was re-gilded with a classic gold finish. The refinishing was is a classic style satin lacquer finish, the finish currently has light sun fading and a few knicks and dings. The strings and tuning pins have a moderate amount of oxidation, rest assured the oxidation is not affecting the sound or tone of the piano. The gold plate is still in good condition with no signs of oxidation.
The Knabe Ampico Model B reproducing player mechanism was completely rebuilt in its entirety. All pneumatics, bellows, valves, pouches, tubing, and wiring were rebuilt to factory specifications using old fashioned techniques and products. The Ampico B player was built to last another 50-70 years.
The action/keyboard is original and has not had any restoration since 1929. This Knabe Ampico B is a great candidate for an action rebuild which allow us to make the piano play and sound like the day it was made.
This piano also comes with a 50 roll Ampico B collection and a matching roll cabinet. The roll cabinet was fully restored and finished to match the piano in 2006.
